Can I eat snacks during the detox?
It’s best to avoid snacks. However, you can eat a little bit of the meals you have prepared for lunch and dinner as snacks. You can also drink medicated water when you are feeling hungry between meals.
You need to eat light food and give rest to your digestion so you can digest toxins. If you are not hungry it is best to avoid snacks during the day.
However, if you are hungry (listen to your body) then you can eat a small amount of meal from lunch or dinner as snacks. Remember to ask your body if this is emotional hunger or real hunger. Medicated water will help to move toxins and help with food cravings. Also, Vata people might need small meals throughout the day to maintain energy. In that case as mentioned earlier eat small portions in between meals.
What is Triphala and why is not in my 28-Day Detox Box
Triphala is (a whole food product, made up of three dried berries that are ground up) and was formulated by Ayurvedic physicians thousands of years ago and used by literally billions of people since it is considered the most effective colon tonic by most health care practitioners.
Triphala is optional and is not in your detox herbs. However you can speak to your doctor/practitioner during your consults to see if Triphala is right for you.
What is CCF Tea?
CCF Tea is a part of your morning routine and you can find it in your morning routine section in your portal. CCF stands for Cumin, Coriander and Fennel.
I’ve done the Health Dynamics test can my body type change?
No, your body type and mind type can not change. This is why we recommend only taking the test ONCE so then it doesn’t cause confusion.
My weight loss seems to have plateaued is this normal or do I need to do something more drastic to keep the weight coming off?
Firstly don’t compare yourself to others and take each day of the Detox as they come. The first week you may lose more weight, or the second week. It depends on your body type and each person is an individual and will get different results. You may not lose any weight at all. It is important to get good quality sleep. Researchers have found that hormones associated with high stress can decrease your ability to lose weight, particularly abdominal weight.
Fortunately, current research also shows that meditation is a powerful way to unwind and de-stress. To see results in both your life and your waistline, devote at least 20 minutes a day to meditation. Sit quietly, relax your body, and focus on your breath. Let thoughts pass by like floating clouds.
Eventually the mind will quiet, and you will be able to receive all the beneficial effects of a regular meditation practice. Also eat your main meal in the middle of the day and for a few dayseat a big bowl of vegetable soup at night time with no protein to give your body a really good rest while sleeping. This will kick start ita gain.
Remember also don’t focus on it, focus on vitality and health and being happy. Maybe watch a funny movie and have a big laugh. You have an amazing laugh and have so much love to give. ENJOY
I have had a stressful day and would usually reach for junk food. How can I manage this?
When we turn to eat, drink or do something when we feel an emotion this is called buffering and Jo will go over buffering during the coaching calls.
Remember the detox is a whole body and mind transformation, so not only do you change your body and food but your mind and food.
We recommend drinking CCF that helps to curb cravings. And join Jo on her Monday calls to learn more about buffering.
Nadhani shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) is off the charts. I’ve already done this a bunch of times today. Is there a limit to the number of times you can do this in a day?
Just don’t feel dizzy – there is not a limit it is best to do at least 2-3 times in a day for five mins. This increase the oxygenation and also helps you to lose weight and calm the mind.
I don’t like everything in phase 1, or I’m a vegetarian can I swap meals?
YES. During Phase 1, you can swap the meals around and substitute them for other meals within that phase. Including swapping lunch/dinner and breakfast.
HOWEVER please do not swap Phase 1 meals in Phase 2 as this is a very specific plan as we are removing grains and meat from your diet to detox your body in Phase 2. You can swap Phase 2 meals around and substitute them for other Phase 2 meals. Look at what you enjoy – keep it simple and your detox will be amazing.
I’m just using the veggies I have in the fridge. Should I follow the recipes to make sure I’m getting all the different tastes??
If you are enjoying it, then this is fine.
We want the 28-Day Detox to be life changing so it is something you can keep doing in maintenance. If the vegetables are in the avoid list then please note
this.
Does anyone use any good apps for meditation?
The art of living has some Called Sattwa . Or you can YouTube Deepak Chopra and other meditations online. Also you can ask others in the Facebook group. Your community is a great resource.
Can I make a large bulk of food and reheat?
You are what you eat… so during the detox we want you eating FRESH cooked food. We recommend cooking food in the morning and putting it in a thermos to eat later that day for lunch or dinner.
You can cook for today and eat for tomorrow lunch but that is the extent of leftovers..
We don’t want to be eating foods that have been cooked more than 24 hours ago as the ‘prana’ or life force, will have been depleted by then.
So can I skip breakfast or is that an essential part of the detox program? I remember some mention of no need to eat if you’re not hungry?
That is correct, you please do not eat unless you’re hungry. That may mean you don’t eat for a full day. However, taking supplements and medicated water is a must (if you are on any) and following
the detox diet will allow your body to reestablish its proper metabolism.
One of the signs of this is a healthy appetite. Some body types are more prone to being able to last longer without food than others or eating small meals during the day rather than three large meals. Talk to your doctor and see if this will suit your body type.
How come ghee is ok but butter isn’t?
Butter contains milk fat, water and milk solids whereas clarified butter or ghee is made out of unsalted butter and ghee does not contain any milk solids and water.
Ghee has been utilised for thousands of years in Ayurveda as a therapeutic agent.
Ghee is used as a carrier for herbs into the body’s channels – and increases Agni the digestive fire.
Research has shown that ‘pure ghee’ may have a positive effect on serum cholesterol levels. 10% ghee as a source of fat in the diet may lower total cholesterol levels, LDL cholesterol (also known as bad cholesterol), VLDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and triglyceride levels. This may be possible because ghee contains conjugated linoleic acid, which has shown to decrease serum LDL levels.
Furthermore, ghee has also shown to increase the excretion of bile constituents and thus lowered serum cholesterol levels.
On the other hand, research has found that butter may increase total cholesterol as well as LDL cholesterol levels. Butter begins to burn between 325-375 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas ghee begins to burn between 375-485 degrees Fahrenheit. Thus, ghee has a higher smoke point as compared to butter, which means ghee can be used for cooking at higher temperatures.
Therefore, one can safely choose ghee over butter for pan-frying.
NB – If you are vegan you can use coconut oil
Is organic coconut water ok to drink occasionally?
it is ok but if you have too much Kapha dosha it is too cooling and congesting and could stop you from getting your desired results.
At the meals do we need to be measuring out exact portions of vegetables? If we are not sticking 100% to the recipes is there a guideline of how much moong bean, veggies, rice or protein per meal?
Eat according to your hunger (digesting power). You don’t need to measure vegetables as they are light and easy to digest. Avoid rice or eat very small quantities if you want to lose weight. You can eat ½ cup-1 cup of cooked Moong bean and 2 to 3 cups of vegetables per meal. This is the most detoxing meal.
I’m feeling lighter to date, but not lost a single pound of kilo yet! How does that work?
Your body is removing heavy and sticky toxins from every single cell, that is why you feel lighter. It is a positive sign. Your scale shows a combination of your fat mass, muscle mass and body fluids. During the detox you are losing your extracellular fluids and burning out fat mass, but good nutrition can build muscle mass. Please remember don’t be too hard on yourself and compare yourself to others. The 28-Day Detox is a personal journey and you may experience weight loss in Phase 3 or post the detox. Your body will start releasing weight, if it needs to, when the toxins are moved.
No fruits in phase 2. Is that correct?
Yes, that is correct. We need to keep the body light.
I am tongue scraping every day and there is quite a lot coming off my tongue. Is this normal or should it be reducing?
This shows that there are still toxins coming out. It will slowly decrease. It also shows how low your metabolism is. Continue with medicated water and you can add in +1/4 tsp dry ginger powder in
it.
How do I deal with social situations?
During the 28-Day Detox you can still go out and have fun. We recommend having dinners at Thai Restaurants, or ordering steams/roast vegetables for dinner. You can skip the coffee and black tea and ask for herbal tea. Or you can have your friends over and cook a detox meal and surprise them how good it tastes.
I’m not feeling 100 percent is this normal?
During the 28-Day Detox you may feel tired and fatigued due to the toxins moving out of your body, so you may have weak spots in your body that are triggered. However if you are constipated for more than 1 day, or you feel really unwell please contact your doctor/practitioner so they can change or tweak your herb prescription subscription or food.
Can I exercise in the detox?
We do recommend daily movement but we want to limit intensive stressful exercise like long runs, rides or heavy weight. Walking, light weights, yoga and pilates is perfect.
