Why you ache when you haven’t done anything
Blocked Drains
It’s storm season in Brisbane. You know what happens when the stormwater drains fill with leaves and nobody clears them: the first big downpour floods the street.
Your body has its own drainage system, and it floods too.
Your lymphatic system is the drains. It carries waste, excess fluid and inflammatory debris away from your tissues. Unlike your blood, it has no pump. It only moves when you move: walking, stretching, breathing deeply. Sit all day and the drains slow to a trickle.
Your liver is the water-treatment plant. It filters what the drains bring in, including used-up hormones like oestrogen, and sends them out through bile and the bowel. If the plant is overloaded, or the bowels are sluggish, some of that waste gets recirculated instead of removed.
When both back up, the “flooding” looks like:
-
Aches and stiffness with no clear cause
-
Puffiness: a swollen face in the morning, rings too tight, heavy legs
-
Inflammation and skin flare-ups
-
Hormonal chaos: heavy or painful cycles, PMS, mood swings, hot and irritable
-
Pain in your joints with no reason
-
Pain in your feet & legs at the end of the day.
-
Menopause symptoms this is a toxicity problem not a hormone issue.
Ayurveda has described this for thousands of years. The lymph is Rasa dhatu, the first tissue, the one that nourishes everything downstream. When Āma clogs it, you feel heavy, swollen and dull. The liver is the seat of Pitta and Rakta (the blood). When it overheats, you get inflammation, rashes, hot flushes and a short fuse. And when Āma settles in the joints (Āmavata), you get the deep, wandering pain so many of my clients live with.
The answer isn’t to push harder. It’s to clear the drains and take the load off the filter. That’s the heart of the 28-Day Detox: gentle, food- and herb-based support that helps your lymph flow and your liver do its job, with no fasting and no punishing juice cleanses.
Clear the drains, and the street stops flooding.
